UNSW Sydney Achieves Top Rankings in 2024 QS Subject Rankings

The 2024 QS Subject Rankings have recognized 19 subjects at UNSW Sydney among the top 50 globally, with 10 ranked number one in Australia.

UNSW has been highlighted as one of the world’s premier institutions across 47 subjects. Six subjects feature in the global top 20, and 19 are within the top 50. Notably, Mineral & Mining Engineering secured UNSW’s highest global ranking at third place, improving from fourth in 2023. This marks the eighth consecutive year it has been ranked in the global top 10 and remains UNSW’s best-performing subject.

In addition, UNSW leads Australia in 10 subjects, doubling its tally from five in 2023. These include Civil & Structural Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics, Accounting & Finance, Business & Management Studies, Marketing, and joint first positions in Statistics & Operational Research and Performing Arts.

UNSW Vice-Chancellor and President Attila Brungs expressed pride in the rankings, stating:
“It is exciting to see UNSW improve its strong position in the QS Subject rankings across all faculties, reflecting the University’s renewed commitment to societal impact and positive change. Our rise in the subject rankings enables us to continue to attract the world’s best researchers, educators and students and drive our positive change – both globally and locally.”

UNSW Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, Professor Dane McCamey, attributed the university’s success to its research quality across diverse disciplines.
“These results highlight our strong global reputation among employers and the academic community,” said Prof. McCamey.
“This reputation stems from our commitment to generating new knowledge and preparing skilled graduates to address society’s most pressing challenges.”

The QS Subject Rankings, published annually since 2011, evaluate institutions based on
academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact. The 2024 edition analyzed
1,559 institutions across 55 subjects within five broad academic areas, providing valuable
insights for prospective students exploring leading programs worldwide.
