Bachelor of Nursing at Victoria University
Recruiting office: Superstar Education Cambodia
Hi! My name is Engkong. I am originally from Cambodia. Before moving to Melbourne, I did my high school studies at Beltei International School in Cambodia. I am currently studying Foundation program at Victoria University in Melbourne. Upon completing my Foundation program, I will be continuing my study to Bachelor of Nursing at Victoria University (VU).
Nursing course is also available in my home country, but I decided to study in Australia because the study duration in Cambodia is longer than the study duration in Australia. The program back home does not include industry placement or internship either, so it is very likely that I have to spend another two years or so before getting a proper nursing job. Secondly, Cambodia is a developing country and our health care system is so far behind compared to some other countries in the region. Therefore, having an Australian qualification and internship experience will surely provide better career prospect for me.
There are many universities in Australia offering nursing program, however there are a number of factors that my parents and I have to put into consideration before making our final decision. First of all, brand reputation. VU is one of the top 350 universities in the world, and it has a long history of delivering high quality education. Secondly, they have more than 14,000 international students on their campus, which is equivalent to around 15%-20% of the total students population at the university. This means the majority of the students is domestic or local students. Not only that, VU has recently received excellence awards in teaching based on their First Year model or Block Model. Another important point that we put into consideration is the location. VU has many campuses in Melbourne. One of their city campuses is located just across Flinders Street Station, while some other campuses are located within walking distance from other train stations. Each campus provides safety support for their students.
Coming from a tropical country, I am so used to hot and humid weather. The weather in Melbourne is so refreshing; at times it feels a little warm, but it will stay cool for quite sometimes. I really like the city because it is very easy to navigate. The city is very vibrant and we can find people from different nationalities. The whole city atmosphere really support my study mood. I am now enjoying my study at VU and I am hoping my study will progress well. I would like to thank Superstar Education for helping me with my VU application and processing my student visa, also my parents’ visitor visa. Superstar Education gave me the best service to make my dream to study in Australia come true.
