I am Viona and I graduated from SMA St Louis in Surabaya. At the moment I am undertaking Diploma of Beauty Therapy at Victoria University (VU), and upon completing this program I can continue to Bachelor of Dermal Sciences. I am really passionate about beauty industry and I am glad to choose a major which is of my interest and passion.

There are many misconceptions about beauty therapy program. Many people think it’s a very easy course, and all we need to do is doing massages and providing facial treatments. Diploma of Beauty Therapy at VU offers more than that. The beauty industry is so big! First of all, we need to learn and understand hygiene, health and work practices, and then there are some core subjects consisting make-up, body massages, body treatments, lash and brow, facial treatments, waxing as well as manicure and pedicure. We learn the theory and science behind treatments and techniques, and we have a lot of hands on experience.

I am so looking forward to do my bachelor program, which I will start in February 2020. This program is so unique because, although the title of the program is Bachelor of Dermal Sciences, it does not require any medical background. This is not a medical degree. There are many prospective career options available for us because this qualification allows us to perform laser and light-based treatments. We can provide, for example, pre and post-operative care for clients who have undergone plastic, reconstructive or cosmetic procedures. The university is equipped with dermal clinic where the students can have supervised practise sessions.

Studying in Melbourne, which is awarded as the most liveable cities for 7 years, is really amazing. It is so easy to navigate in the city and the government also provides free transportation within the CBD too. So far it’s been a pleasant experience to live and study in Melbourne. I figure out that choosing superstar education as my education consultant is a right choice. They assisted me to prepare for my documents and application to the university, and they also organised and accompanied me to do university visit before I started my study at VU. This agency has many offices in Indonesia as well as in Australia, so it comes very handy if one day I need help during my study in Melbourne.
